Keep Your Topics Rolling
So, you got yourself a blog… Now what? Start blogging! Some of you may be thinking, “What am I supposed to blog about?” You went and got a blog because you were told that it would help to market your business and drive traffic to your website, but now you are clueless as to what to talk about. In our upcoming seminar called “Son of Blog, Blogging 2.0,” we will be talking more in depth about topic ideas. But in the meantime, here are a few ideas to help you get started with writing your next post.
#1 – Blog about your company or the products you sell. Write about something relating to your business by finding a topic within your business that you are passionate about. When you are passionate about your topic, you are likely to blog more often. Blogging often is key to driving traffic to your website.
#2 – Blog about your experiences with your business. Clients are interested in building relationships and are attracted to people who are passionate and knowledgeable about what they do. You could write about personal experiences with your business, describe the journey to how you got to where you are now, take them through a typical day you, and perhaps relate humorous experiences you have had along the way.
#3 – Get a little more personal. If your business is less corporate, and more casual, then why not include a category within your blog that talks about your team and their life outside of the business. Discuss where you grew up, your family or pets, likes and dislikes, etc. People like to “know” the person they are doing business with and if you provide them with a section to get to know you and your team, they’ll read it! For example, we have a client who is a real estate agent and she provided a section in her newsletter and blog that is dedicated to personal stories. Every week she posts a different picture and provides a little caption about her family and interests. Her clients look forward to seeing a new picture each month and they enjoy reading what she is passionate about outside of real estate.
#4 – Subscribe to a newsfeed. News feeds help bloggers and Internet users stay informed by retrieving summaries of the latest content from sites they subscribe to. The number of sites offering RSS feeds is growing tremendously from a variety of industries, news stations, educational institutions, private business, and individuals. This is a great way to find up to date information that people are interested in, and can be a springboard for ideas to help write your next post.
Don’t forget, you are your best advocate for your business and therefore the best source of information for your blog. Continue to challenge yourself to research and write meaningful information that connects with your audience. We invite you to comment on this post so that the TCS team and anyone else out there can help you cultivate more ideas. In the meantime, happy blogging!

This is great advise.
New to blogging ourselves, I find the toughest aspect is being consistent. Having a post every day, week or month.
I suggest making a editorial/posting calendar (call it what you want). For us we are trying to stay on schedule for a post every week. Now we have the next 3 months planned out on a calendar and we can see whats on tap for next week with a simple glance.
This is also a great idea if you want to run posts that share the same subject or content. You can now open or close the posts with trailing ideas from last week or try…stay tuned for next weeks article on…
Jeff
That’s a great suggestion. It is hard to find topics to blog about each day- but having topics already pre-picked out for the month would help tremendously! Thanks Jeff!
