Your Blogging Tool Belt

Posted by by Michelle on April 3rd, 2007

Since March turned out to be our official “Blogging education” month, I thought I would conclude with a few blogging tools that we just can’t live without. All of us here at TCS have blogs that we run and are passionate about. So, I went around the office and asked the TCS team what are some of the most valuable tools they use when they blog. Below are some of the answers I received. Perhaps you can add these ideas to your blogging “tool belt”!

My most invaluable tool is Firefox. With tab navigation, easy workflow, and all the crazy add-ons, it is just easy to say that firefox is my favorite tool.

For me, news websites like MSNBC are wonderful, because there is always an article in the news that’s interesting and it’s easy to write a blog about your thoughts on the article. I also think shows and movies are helpful tools because once again, its easy to watch a show and then write a blog about your thoughts on the show.

Twitter, Digg & Google Reader are my top 3 really. I get all the latest information about anything I need to incorporate in my blog through one of those 3 sources. My newsfeeds are in Google Reader, Digg always has the latest, up to the minute industry specific news and Twitter is a great way to stay up to speed on what people are talking about online. These are my three ways to keep a finger on the pulse of the hottest news.

My favorite tool for blogging is going to www.g4tv.com. They have a section called The Feed, which has the latest news most guys are interested in, thus I feel I should inform my female readers about. I like G4 because they are a televised station and a very credible website with tons of forums, the only downside is, it doesn’t link the discussion groups to other blogs. But that’s were I get my ideas for the “Only News, You Need to Know.”

http://akismet.com - I had no idea how amazing this spam-blocking software was until I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago and noticed it had caught over 200 potential spam posts. This free Wordpress plug-in helps keep my blog spam-free by doing all the work. Oh and I also love my newsfeeds that I read in my Google Reader.

How about you? What are some blogging tools that make your blogging world more exciting or perhaps just a little bit simpler?
